Hi! I’m Jocelyn. I’m a Texas native who moved to Los Angeles to write music for movies. When I’m not writing, I’m baking pie and bringing people together.
I started BLK Events LA as a one-stop resource for Black folks to discover culture & community. I used to have such a difficult time finding Black spaces in Los Angeles, and even when I did, it never felt like enough. In June 2023, I took to the internet, searching for events with a Black-gaze and Black audience. With a bunch of screenshots and a baby understanding of TikTok, I shared what I found, and the response was astounding. Thousands of people were activated, asking for a weekly roundup of Black events in Los Angeles. This was the service the Black community had been looking for.
BLK Events LA is a love letter to the younger Jocelyn who didn’t grow up with the Black community she wanted and needed. Party people, introverts, artists, fashion lovers, comedy connoisseurs, voracious readers, and all those in between: Welcome. Stay awhile! You’re among friends.
